Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers announced today the signing of goaltender Dan McWhinney, head coach Bill McDonald said. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McWhinney recently played in the Central Hockey League with the Amarillo Gorillas, where he appeared in a career-high 48 games, compiling a 16-24-6 record with a 3.81 GAA and .888 save percentage.

"The ECHL is a much more creative league with more skilled players," McWhinney said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge."

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native spent the 2006-07 season with the Fort Wayne Komets of the then United Hockey League and was 9-3-1 and had a 3.11 goals against average and .900 save percentage. McWhinney's first professional win came after making four saves in a shootout for the Komets.

"Dan's a player that wants to prove himself," McDonald said. "He's got some competition here with Paul (Drew), and his professional experience should be beneficial."

McWhinney was named the 2005-06 OPJHL North Division MVP during his season with the Stouffville Spirit after a 20-9-8 season. He then backstopped the Spirit to the 2006 OPJHL finals with 18 wins and a 2.60 goals-against average in post-season play.

McWhinney also appeared as a contestant on the 2006 hockey-themed reality television show "Making the Cut 2" with fellow Bomber Jarret Lukin, finishing 9th amongst 36 competitors.
