Bombers Score Early in 6-2 Win over Dans

June 17, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

Devon Nelson pitched six scoreless innings, and the Dubois County Bombers scored six runs in the first two innings as they beat the Danville Dans 6-2 Sunday night at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind.

Nelson, in his first start and second appearance for the Bombers, allowed two hits and walked two in his six innings of work while striking out seven - all of them swinging.

John Rashid and Kurt Kudrecki pitched the seventh and eigth innings, respectfully, for Dubois County as Danville was held scoreless through eight.

Field manager Ryan Anderson tried to give David Jesch some work in the ninth, but this effort proved short-lived. Jesch, who hadn't pitched since his first start of the season due to shoulder soreness, walked the first two men he faced and surrendered an RBI single to Bradley Roney, and his night was done.

Joey McClung came on and got the final three outs to finish the Dans.

Offensively, the Bombers scraped together six hits, but only two figured in the scoring.

In the first, Danville starter Matt Snider hit Bombers left fielder Landon Curry. Two batters later, shortstop Frank Rawdow smacked a hard groundball that Dans third baseman Zane Dillon booted, and both Curry and Rawdow were safe.

After Dubois County third baseman Cody Daily walked, first basemen Jeff Zahn lined a single to right, driving in Curry and Rawdow and sending Daily to third. Zahn would steal second base and then head to third on a wild pitch that allowed Daily to score from third.

Right fielder Scott Windler then drove Zahn in with a groundout to short.

The Bombers tacked on two more in the second as Curry and second baseman Dalton Rouleaux worked two-out walks and were driven in by a Rawdow double.

The Bombers, who improved to 14-4, host Quincy Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. in a matchup of the top two teams in the Western Division. Danville, 5-13, hosts Hannibal Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
