
Bombers Rally Late To Defeat Sand Gnats

SAVANNAH, GA â The Savannah Sand Gnats were locked into a pitchers' duel tonight for five innings in the last game of a three game home stand against the Capital City Bombers. Unfortunately the Bombers went on to pick up runs in the final four innings of the game, with two runs coming in the eighth, defeating the Sand Gnats 5-1 on Thirsty Thursday.
The Sand Gnats had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh, but could only bring one run home in the bottom of the ninth. Tony Mongelluzzo walked to lead off the inning. Then singles by Jason Dill and Dustin Smith loaded the bases for the Sand Gnats with two outs. Bomber pitcher Quenten Patterson then walked first baseman Jean Sanchez giving the Sand Gnats their only run of the game.
Bombers first baseman Andres Rodriguez hit his first homerun of the season scoring the Bombers second run of the game in the seventh off of reliever Victor Ramirez. Also for the Bombers, designated hitter Frank Corr hit his fourth double in two games collecting two RBI's in the top of the eighth.
Sand Gnat starter Nathan Bright pitched 5 scoreless innings before giving up an unearned run in the sixth. The Sand Gnats Jason Bourgeois was 1 for 3 on the night extending his hitting streak to eight games.
The Sand Gnats will be on the road this weekend playing three games against the Asheville Tourists. They will return to action at Historic Grayson Stadium on Monday, April 22 at 6:35pm to face the Lexington Legends in the first game of an eight game home stand. Monday is "Feed Your Face Monday" sponsored by Connect Savannah and Wave 106.1 FM. For $9.99, guests can get a general admission ticket and all-you-can eat at the main concession stand.
