Bombers Hang-On for 6-4 Win over Marshals

The Texas Marshals fought back from a 6-0 deficit on Thursday night in Bryan, but ultimately fell to the Brazos Valley Bombers by a final of 6-4. Lawson Vassar pitched well for the Bombers to pick up the win as he tossed six scoreless innings.

Landon Lewis got the start on the mound for the Marshals and allowed six runs on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in five innings. He was tagged with the loss in the game as the Bombers scored three in the first, two in the second, and one in the fifth to jump out to a 6-0 lead.

The Marshals battled back by scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Carlos Vargas ripped a two-run double down the left field line to score Daniel Rushing and Spencer Goodwin. Vargas came into score on an RBI single by James Stroud. Stroud would come into score later in the inning on an error by the Bomber's third baseman to cut the Bombers lead to 6-4.

Joey Muehr pitched well in relief of Lewis . Muehr did not allow a run or a hit in the final three innings of the game. He walked three and struck out three.

Zach Girrens pitched the ninth inning for the Bombers to earn the save as he retired the Marshals in order.

Carlos Vargas went 2-for-4 in the game with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs to lead the Marshals offense.

With the win, the Bombers improve their league-best record to 41-14 overall and 19-8 in the second-half. The Marshals are now 19-36 overall and 11-17 in the second-half.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night to close out the 2014 TCL regular season. Game time is 7:05pm at Cellucor Field in Bryan.
