Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers begin the new year with an impressive win over the Columbia Inferno Sunday afternoon at the Nutter Center. The Bombers would come out to play early, in a very physical, non-divisional game with Columbia.

Dayton started the scoring out as A.J. MACCLEAN picked up a shorthanded, unassisted goal at the 11:17 mark of the first period. At the 13:00 mark, JEREMY VAN HOOF would score to add the Bombers lead to 2, off assists from A.J. MACCLEAN and BRIAN GORNICK. Shots on goal after one period were nearly even, at 6-5 in favor of Dayton.

The second period would be remembered as a very busy period in terms of scoring, as it was Columbia's Leon Hayward scoring just 41 seconds into the period to cut the lead down to one. Columbia would notch another goal just over six minutes later, as it was Chanse Fitzpatrick finding the back of the net. The Bombers would manage a comeback however, as MARCO CAPRARA scored an unassisted goal at the 7:11 mark to make it 3-2 Dayton. At the 10:17 mark, DOMINIC NOEL lit the lamp to put the Bombers up by two once again, off assists from BRYAN NATHE and SCOTT CAMERON. Columbia would manage one last goal of the period, as the Inferno's Travis Lisabeth scored with just 3:01 to go. With a one goal lead, and just seconds left in the period, SCOTT CAMERON found a hole in Inferno goaltender Travis Cunning off of assists from JAY LATULIPPE and BRYAN GORNICK with 12 seconds left. At the end of the second period, Columbia led in shots on goal 18-17.

In the third period, the Bombers were able to hold the Inferno scoreless, while scoring three goals, two of which were on the powerplay. KYLE MUSSELMAN scored twice in the third, and MATT HERNEISEN picked up a goal as well to extend the lead to well outside the reach of the Columbia Inferno. In the end, the Bombers defeated the Columbia Inferno 8-3, and out shot them 35-31.This is the only time the two teams will meet in the regular season, and the first time since 2003.
