Bombers Down 2-0 in series after 1-0 loss
April 25, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH-The Dayton Bombers were defeated by the Cincinnati Cyclones 1-0 in Game 2 of the North Division Finals at the Nutter Center on Wednesday night.
The Bombers were looking to avenge a tough 5-4 loss to the Cyclones in game one of the series on Sunday and even up the series with a win before it shifted to Cincinnati for game three.
Cincinnati continued their momentum coming off of the game one victory early in the first period by generating nine shots on goal in the first ten minutes of the game. The Bombers got off to a slow start but picked up the offense as the first moved along and ended up out shooting Cincinnati 13-10 after one period of play. Both Adam Berkhoel (30 saves, Loss) and Cedrick Desjardins (32 saves, Win) did their part and kept the game scoreless after 20 minutes.
The Bombers came out in the second period and tried to set the tone early by drawing three power plays against the Cyclones. Defenseman Brad Farynuk almost broke the scoreless tie late in the second but his shot from the point clanged off the post and once again Desjardins was tough stopping 13 more shots in the second to keep the game scoreless after two periods of play.
In the third period neither team changed their game plan. Cincinnati however found a way to generate a little bit more offense than the Bombers and for a period of three to four minutes put continuous pressure on Berkhoel and the Bombers defense. Then just when it looked like both teams were headed to overtime for the first time in the playoffs, Cyclones forward Sam Ftorek (3) snuck the puck off of Berkhoel, who turned around and saw it laying in the back of the net for the only goal of the hockey game at the 18:18 mark of the third. Although the Bombers did pull Berkhoel to try to tie it late, the Cyclones shut the defensive door and held on for the 1-0 win.
The Bombers will now look to return the favor to the Cyclones as the series moves to U.S. Bank Arena for game three on Friday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. In the history of the ECHL playoffs, the team that wins game three has gone onto win 72% of the series.
