July 10, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Butler BlueSox News Release

Butler, PA - July 10, 2012 - For the second consecutive week, Elliott Caldwell has been named the Prospect League Hitter of the Week by Pointstreak Sports Technologies in association with the Prospect League. Joining him as the Pitcher of the Week is his Butler teammate LJ Newman Jr.

Newman Jr. made his Prospect League debut on Sunday, throwing a complete-game, two-hit shutout against the Lorain County Ironmen. He struck out six and walked just two Lorain hitters in the outing to move to 1-0 on the summer. Newman arrived in Butler just one day before the start; he attends the University of South Carolina-Upstate.

Caldwell followed his Hitter of the Week performance from last week by going .480 (12-for-45) including two doubles, eight RBIs, and five stolen bases. The Winthrop University attendee hit his second grand slam of the summer in the sixth inning of Saturday's game against Lorain to complete a Butler comeback after being down by eight runs. Butler went up 11-10 because of the home run and went on to a 20-11 win.

Caldwell finished the game 4-for-5 with five runs scored, and six RBIs. Caldwell is leading the League with a .414 batting average. He has already broken the BlueSox single-season record with 42 runs scored and stolen bases, having swiped 18 bags entering the All-Star break.

He will participate in the All-Star Game at Springfield, Illinois on Wednesday as a reserve on the Eastern Division team.
