
Blues Sign Midfielder Pavle Popara

IRVINE, Calif. (July 14, 2015) - Orange County Blues FC is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Pavle Popara. The native of Kragujevac, Serbia made his Blues debut on July 11th in Oklahoma City, playing 90 minutes and recording an assist on Denzel Slager's goal in the 52nd minute.
Popara, 28, began his professional career in 2004 with FK Partizan in Belgrade, Serbia. He moved to Greek side Apollon 1926 FC in 2006 for two seasons, which included a 10-game loan spell at Panetolikos FC. 2007 brought on a move to the island of Cyprus, playing for Enosis Leon Paralimni FC.
He began a six-season stay at PFC Slavia Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria in late 2008, making close to 100 appearances for the "The Whites." Most recently, Popara played for Pogón Szczecin in Poland and FK Radni?ki NiÅ¡ in Serbia before coming to Orange County.
"I'm very excited to add a player of Popara's caliber and experience. His professionalism will have a huge impact on and off the field for the OC Blues," remarked Head Coach Oliver Wyss.
The Blues next visit LA Galaxy II on Thursday, July 16th at StubHub Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.
