
Blues Host Real Monarchs SLC Saturday Night

IRVINE, Calif. (July 24, 2015) - It has been almost a month since Orange County Blues FC (7-8-3, 24 pts) played on home turf at UCI's Anteater Stadium, where they host Real Monarchs SLC (2-9-6, 12 pts) Saturday night at 7 p.m. PT.
The Blues are coming off a 1-1 draw against LA Galaxy II, earning their first ever competitive point against the local rivals at StubHub Center on Thursday, July 16th. Chris Cortez finished a ball from Pavle Popara for his third goal of the season to put OC up 1-0 in the 8th minute. Ariel Lassiter's 40th minute goal equalized for LA. Brenton Griffiths was sent off in the 71st for his second yellow card, but the Blues managed to hang on to the point.
Real Monarchs SLC comes to Irvine off a 3-1 win over Austin Aztex at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. Their second win of the season, goals from Maikon Orellana, Ricardo Velazco, and Emery Welshman led the Monarchs to victory.
Orange County is led by Didier Crettenand and Christofer Ramirez, who have seven goals apiece. Crettenand, Christopher Santana, and Seung Ju Kim each have three assists. Max Rauhofer leads the Monarchs in goals with six, and Velazco and Orellana each have three assists.
OC currently holds the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, sitting in 6th place, while the Monarchs are currently in 12th place.
Saturday is the first of two meetings between the two sides, who meet again a week later, August 1st, at Rio Tinto Stadium.
