Bluefish top Patriots with 6-1 win

Bridgewater, NJ - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-1 before 4,343 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.

The Bluefish took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Third baseman Tony Rodriguez singled and scored on shortstop Corey Hart's RBI double.

Somerset answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on second baseman Emiliano Escandon's solo home run (1) to tie up the game.

Bridgeport regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Right fielder Jamie Gann doubled and scored on designated hitter Michael Coleman's two run home run (7) to give the Bluefish a 3-1 lead.

The Bluefish added three runs to the lead in the top of the ninth inning. Rodriguez and Hart drew walks and Gann and Coleman were both hit by pitches to allow a run to score. Left fielder Gary Burnham followed with a two-run double to give Bridgeport a 6-1 lead.

Bridgeport reliever Dan Krines (1-1) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Patriots reliever Shane Heams (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in an inning pitched.

Bridgeport starter Luis Arroyo went six innings and allowed one earned run on five hits while walking two and striking out eight. Patriots starter Greg Modica went six innings and allowed an earned run on three hits and four strikeouts in a no decision.

The 2005 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The game is Mets Night at Commerce Bank Ballpark.
