
Bluefish Suffer Setback against Blue Crabs

(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 21, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-18, 50-57) suffered a loss against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (22-16, 52-56) by a score of 12-6 on Tuesday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Bridgeport is 6-9 against the Blue Crabs this season and trails Southern Maryland by one-half game in the Liberty Division standings.
Bridgeport's Willis Otanez drove in three runners on the day which included his first homer with Bridgeport since 2007. The shot to left in the third frame accounted for one of his two hits on the day. Shea Hillenbrand replaced the injured Eddie Rogers and delivered a two-run double to tie the game in the fifth. Rogers reached base twice on the day while Joey Gathright walked twice and singled. The outfielder scored twice on the night. Eight of the nine starters had a hit on the day including Brad Boyer's multiple hit night.
Southern Maryland hitter, Jesse Gutierrez, produced two homers, four hits and four RBI on the day for the road team while scoring three runs. Richard Mercado had three hits, brought in two, and scored one for the winning side. Brian Barton scored twice while picking up two hits and driving in a run. Jeremy Owens had two hits, two RBI and a run scored Matt Padgett also produced a two-run homer on Tuesday and touched the plate twice.
Bluefish starter, Dan Serafini, did not factor in the decision as the southpaw allowed five runs on eleven hits and two walks while striking out six batters in six frames. Julio DePaula (1-2) suffered the loss as the reliever surrendered four runs (two earned) on three hits, one walk, and one strikeout in one-and-one third innings. Rommie Lewis and Kyle Zaleski pitched the rest of the way as the tandem gave up three unearned runs on four hits and two strikeouts while retiring the final five batters.
Blue Crabs hurler, Daryl Thompson, did not factor in the decision as the righthanded starter completed four innings of six run, eight hit, two walk, and six strikeout baseball. Bridgeport produced two hits one walk and four strikeouts against winning pitcher, Jim Ed Warden (5-7). Kevin hart and Deinys Suarez allowed one hit and fanned two in the final couple of innings.
The Bluefish continue a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 with the gates opening one hour before first pitch. Bark in the Park night is presented by K-9 Company. Bridgeport will send righthanded starter, Matt Pike (2-5, 5.68 ERA) to the mound against Southern Maryland righthanded hurler Nick Green (7-8, 3.36 ERA).
