Bluefish Sign OF James Simmons

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of outfielder James Simmons. Simmons makes his way to Bridgeport for his second stint with the Bluefish and eighth season of professional baseball.
"It's great to have James back with this ballclub," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He's one of the best defensive outfielders I've seen in this league and adds a great bat to our lineup."
Previously this year, James played for Monclova in the Mexican League, batting .267 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI in 55 games. After starting the 2012 campaign with Independent Washington of the Frontier League (five games), he came to the âFish for the remainder of the season. In 93 games the outfielder had 13 home runs, knocked in 45 runs, stole 12 bases, scored 47 runs while hitting .283. The Texas-native was originally drafted by San Francisco in the 24th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He has reached as high as the Triple-A level last year and his best professional season came in 2010 with Single-A San Jose of the California League. Simmons batted .252 with 12 home runs and 19 stolen bases and posted career-highs with 80 hits, 56 runs scored, and 47 RBI. In 669 career games, he owns a .249 batting average with 66 home runs, 337 runs scored, 275 RBI, and 106 stolen bases.
In a corresponding roster move, the Bluefish have released infielder Russ Mitchell.
