
Bluefish Rally to Defeat Road Warriors, 7-6

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 14, 2003) â The Bridgeport Bluefish used a two-out, two-run rally to defeat the Pennsylvania Road Warriors, 7-6, on Wednesday evening before 2,017 fans at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Bluefish won the game with a bases-loaded, two-out walk by Willis Otanez. Tony Rodriguez hit a game-tying RBI-single off the outstretched glove the Pennsylvania second baseman Asbel Ortiz. The Rodriguez hit scored Rolo Avila who began the two-out rally with a single of his own.
The Road Warriors had rallied to a take a 6-5 lead in their half of the ninth inning on a Isaias Nunez RBI-single to right field, scoring Jerry Amador who reached with a double. Pennsylvania also tied the score at 5-5 in the eighth inning on an Ortiz double down the right field line, scoring Nunez who had singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Jose Amado gave Bridgeport a 5-4 lead with a sixth inning solo home run, his first on the season. Earlier, Jose Offerman tied the score at 4-4 in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly scoring Rolo Avila. The âFish crept closer to the Road Warriors earlier in the inning after Hector Kuilan walked and Richard Almanzar doubled. Both Kuilan and Almanzar eventually scored on an Avila RBI-single. Almanzar scored on an error by the Pennsylvania left fielder Jerry Amador who bobbled the single. The Bluefish scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a Ben Candelaria fielder's choice. Rodriguez led off he inning with a single and moved all the way to third on a Otanez single to right field.
The Road Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Javier Cardona RBI-single and a Nunez sacrifice fly. Pennsylvania tacked on another run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Amador. Adalberto Pena scored on the sac fly after he led the inning off with a walk, advanced to second on a Victor Rosario catcher's interference and to third on a Escobar bunt single. Escobar knocked in the fourth and final run for the Road Warriors in the fourth inning with a RBI-single, scoring Javier Sein who had walked to lead-off the inning.
Mike Guilfoyle (1-0) picked up the win for the Bluefish in relief (1.2IP, 2H, 1R, 1K). Greg Runser (0-1) took the loss for Pennsylvania (1.0IP, 2H, 2R, 3BB, 2K). Angel Miranda started for the Bluefish, but did not factor into the decision after going six innings while allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits (3BB, 2K). Brad Whitworth made the start for the Road Warriors, allowing four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings (2BB, 1K).
Masaru Imazeki (1-0, 3.38) will take the mound for the Bluefish on Thursday, opposing Pennsylvania's RHP Jason Cly (0-0, 15.88). Thursday will be the deciding game of the series as the Bluefish look to win their second straight series of the season.
