Bridgeport, CT- The Bridgeport Bluefish (7-4, 37-44) were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters (6-5, 41-40) 10-1 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday evening. The loss snaps a season-high five game winning streak for the 'Fish, as the Skeeters are able to salvage the finale of a four-game weekend wraparound series. Bridgeport has been victorious in seven of their last eleven series played overall.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher D.J. Mitchell (2-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs (five earned runs) on ten hits in six innings on the mound, walking one, striking out four, and surrendering two home runs. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Roy Merritt (3-2) earned the win with five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, while walking two, striking out four and tossing a wild pitch.

The Skeeters scored first in the contest against Mitchell when Ricky Hague drove home Jeff Dominguez with an RBI double in the top half of the first inning, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead just four batters into the ballgame. The Skeeters next put a crooked number again off Mitchell in the top half of the fourth inning, sending eight to the plate in scoring four runs to jump out to a 5-0 advantage. Patrick Palmeiro concluded the rally by launching a three-run home run to left field. Palmerio struck again in the top of the sixth, launching another big fly once again to left field, a solo shot which gave the Skeeters a 6-0 cushion. The top of the seventh inning brought more action on the scoreboard for the boys from the Lone Star State, as a single by Travis Scott sent Dominguez home to make it 7-0 in favor of Sugar Land. Bridgeport's lone run of the game came in the home half of the seventh, as Luis Hernandez extended his hitting streak to a team-high 17 consecutive games with an RBI single that sent Jose Gil home to cut the Bluefish deficit to 7-1. The Skeeters would finish off the evening by adding three more runs in the top of the eighth inning, as Dominguez continued his productive offensive evening, lacing his second double of the night to plate Josh Prince and Palmerio. A single by Delwyn Young sent Dominguez home and gave Young his fourth hit of the game, giving Sugar Land their largest lead of the night at 10-1. Gil led the offensive efforts for the Bluefish with two hits.
