Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, CT- September 15, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (28-35, 54-79) were defeated by the Somerset Patriots (36-27, 86-47) 6-2 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday night in the opener of a three game series. The Bluefish have now lost three straight games at home overall.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Matt Iannazzo (5-11) was tagged with the loss, lasting six innings, giving up five runs (three earned runs) on eight hits, walking three, and striking out eight. Somerset Starting Pitcher Will Oliver (6-1) earned the win, tossing six innings, surrendering two runs on six hits, walking three and striking four while hitting two batters.

The game was a scoreless pitcher's duel moving to the top half of the fourth inning, when the visitors sent ten batters to the plate off Iannazzo, scoring five runs on six hits for a 5-0 cushion. Greg Hopkins drove home Matt Fields with an RBI double for the game's first run after Fields led off the frame reaching base on an error. With one out, Jonny Tucker picked up an opposite field two run seeing eye single to right field to extend the lead to 3-0. The rally was completed with a Robert Andino run scoring double and an RBI base knock by Mike Wilson.

The Bluefish scored a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth inning off Oliver on an RBI double by CJ Retherford, scoring Bryan Sabatella who reached on a one out free pass, and an RBI groundout by Andres Rodriguez, plating Welington Dotel who was on board with his second hit of the night, extending his hitting streak to eight consecutive games. That was as close as the 'Fish would get, as the trio of Andrew Carignan, Buddy Boshers, and Daniel Sattler retired all nine batters they faced out of the bullpen, striking out four in the process, and the Patriots had their league-leading 86th victory of the season. Dotel and Retherford led the way for Bridgeport with a pair of hits each.

The Bluefish conclude their series with the Somerset Patriots at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday, September 16th in a day/night doubleheader. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 10:35 A.M. with the nightcap slated for 7:05 P.M.
