(Bridgeport, Conn., May 15, 2003) â The Bridgeport Bluefish won back to back games for the first time this season by defeating the Pennsylvania Road Warriors, 3-1, on Thursday evening before 2,066 fans at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Bridgeport's own, Rodney Lindsey scored from second on a Rolo Avila (3-for-3) single. Lindsey reached first after an error by Pennsylvania third baseman Dario Delgado and proceeded to steal second base. Ben Candelaria scored the second Bluefish run in the bottom of the fourth when Pennsylvania turned a double play on Bridgeport's Jose Amado. Candelaria and Cesar Devarez reached base with back to back singles to start the inning for the Bluefish. In the fifth inning a Tony Rodriguez double to centerfield scored Avila, giving the Bluefish a 3-0 advantage.
The Road Warriors scored their lone run in the eighth inning on a Gustavo Escobar sacrifice fly. Deurys Reyes scored on the play after leading off the inning with a single, stealing second base, and moving to third on a Victor Rosario single.
Masaru Imazeki (2-0) picked up the win after hurling 7.1 strong innings while surrendering just one run on five hits. Mike Guilfoyle earned his fourth save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Jason Cly (0-1) took the loss for the Road Warriors after pitching five innings while allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits (3K).
On Friday the Bridgeport Bluefish will continue their current 15-game homestand with a weekend series against the Nashua Pride. LHP Alex Lontayo (1-1, 5.91) will take the mound for the Bluefish opposing Nashua's LHP Brian Looney, (2-0, 2.45).
