Bluecats "Catch the Bus" to face Believers

May 6, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Evansville BlueCats News Release

For only the 2nd time this season the Evansville Bluecats will hit the road as they travel to St. Charles, Missouri to take on the division leading Show-Me Believers this Saturday, May 8th. The Bluecats will look to avenge a week 6 loss to the Believers as 2 of the league's most potent offenses will face off at the Family Arena. A victory would mark the 1st ever 2-game win streak for the ‘Cats who are coming off the biggest win in franchise history, a 71-68 thriller against Ft. Wayne in which the team scored on every offensive possession.

Show-Me brings 3 of the NIFL's most dangerous offensive weapons with quarterback Justin Peery (1st in total offense), running back Ricky Brown (2nd in rushing) and wide receiver Scott Pingel (1st in receiving). Evansville will counter with its own threats led by running back Michael Cosey (6th in rushing) and wide receiver John Gordon (8 TD's in 21 receptions). New starting quarterback Ramon Robinson will look to back up his solid performance in the Ft. Wayne game (91.7 QB Rating, 3 TD, 0 INT).

The key match-up will be in the trenches. On the defensive side of the ball, Evansville will be looking to force Peery into turnovers with their league-leading defensive line (1st in the NIFL with 15 sacks in 5 games including 5 in the 1st match-up between the 2 teams). The offensive line (2nd in the NIFL, giving up only 2 sacks) will hope to protect Robinson and avoid the costly mistakes that have been their achilles heel thus far. In 2 wins this year, the Bluecats have not turned the ball over and have a +3 turnover ratio, but in their 3 losses they have 11 turnovers for a –6 turnover ratio.

The ‘Cats return home to Roberts Stadium on May 15th against the Atlantic City Card Sharks for Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) High School Night. All EVSC High School students will get ½ price tickets with a valid student ID. The game will kickoff at 7:05 PM with gates opening at 6 PM.
