Valley Blue Sox News Release
HOLYOKE, MA-It took just two batters for the Blue Sox to prove last night was no fluke as they jumped out to an early lead they never relinquished in a 7-3 victory over the New Bedford Bay Sox to sweep the season series from their Bay State brethren.
Valley is now 8-16 on the year.
Frank Crinella led the bottom of the first off with a double and Bobby Stahel followed with an RBI single. Stahel then stole second and was moved over to third on a bunt. He then reached home when the throw back to the mound from the catcher in the following at bat got away.
After the Bay Sox plated a run in the top of the second, Valley grabbed it right back, with Garrett Black and Storm Wilson executing a double steal to perfection to allow Wilson to score after Wilson led off the hitting in the inning with a two out bunt single.
The Bay Sox scored again in the fourth and again the Blue Sox responded, as Black hit a two run single to right to bring in Angelo La Bruna and Josh Graham to make it 5-2.
The teams traded runs again in the seventh, with the Blue Sox getting an RBI single from La Bruna to plate Fagnan, who had walked and stolen second.
In the eighth, the Blue Sox added their seventh run as Nick Lynch battled back from an 0-2 count to work a walk and then scored on a Black single that was subsequently thrown away by the second baseman.
The Bay Sox managed to load the bases in the ninth to bring the tying run to the dish, but Kyle Rasmussen was able to get a called strike three to end the game.
Valley heads to Vermont tomorrow to take on the Mountaineers before returning home Saturday to battle Mariano Rivera III and the Laconia Muskrats for a 6:35 p.m. start.
