HOLYOKE, MA-A rain delay and a tough first inning seemed to leave the home team soaked, but an epic two-out rally in the fourth sparked the Holyoke Blue Sox to a 9-7 victory in front of 1,408 at Mackenzie Stadium tonight against the US Military All-Stars.
The All-Stars struck right away, tallying three runs before their first out thanks to a combination of hits and walks that saw them tally four times overall in the inning.
They then rang up three more in the top of the fourth to take what appeared to be a commanding 7-0 lead. It was an advantage that instead lasted just two thirds of an inning.
After a leadoff single and then a walk, the All-Stars induced two quick outs. The next eight batters all reached, with two walks, a single, a double, a single, a triple, a walk, and another single bringing in eight runs to give the local nine a shocking 8-7 lead.
The team plated one final run in the seventh thanks to second baseman Brendan Hendriks firing a triple into right center and then scoring when left fielder Johnny Locher drove him in for the 9-7 final.
The Blue Sox next head to Danbury to take on the division rival Westerners tomorrow at 6:30 PM; they are home for a three-game stretch this weekend beginning Thursday with a matchup against the Laconia Muskrats, continuing on Friday against the Keene Swamp Bats, and concluding Saturday with the first ever visit by the Plymouth Pilgrims. All tickets are just $6.
