Blue Sox Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with 6-5 Win
August 1, 2012 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Valley Blue Sox News Release
Holyoke (17-24) went back and forth with Danbury on Wednesday swapping the lead seven times, but the Blue Sox came out on top for a 6-5 win at MacKenzie Stadium.
The Blue Sox would not relinquish the lead as the Danbury Westerners (23-17) were unable to weather a three-run seventh inning deficit.
Danbury pushed across two runs in the ninth on an RBI single by Andrew Garner and an RBI triple by Mike Orefice. Unfortunately, Westerners weren't able to take the lead back.
Phil Mosey racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Blue Sox including his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning.
Nick Bougopoulos got the win, running his season record to 1-0. Bougopoulos struck out three, walked two and gave up five hits.
Fred Breidenbach ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed three runs.
For the Blue Sox to keep the dream alive on the possibility of getting into the 2012 NECBL Playoffs, they need some help. Currently the Keene Swamp Bats are in game one of a doubleheader with the Vermont Mountaineers.
If the Blue Sox want a chance to get into the playoffs they need Keene to sweep that doubleheader.
