Marion Blue Racers News Release

After bringing the team from worst to first in the league, Blue Racers Head Coach LaMonte Coleman has been named the 2014 Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) Coach of the Year. Coleman led the team to first in the CIFL South Division with a 5-0 division record and an overall season record of 9-3. To end the season, LaMonte brought the 2014 CIFL Championship Game to Marion, OH for the first time in history as they hosted the Erie Explosion on Sunday, May 18th. This came after a playoff victory in the 2014 CIFL South Division Championship Game where he lead the team to beat the Northern Kentucky River Monsters, 56-40. The Blue Racers became 2014 CIFL Runner Up in the championship after being defeated by Erie, 26-38.

This season, LaMonte was able to coach a loaded roster of one time or multiple MVP winners including DL James Spikes, WR/KR/QB Mike Tatum, and RB/DB Bryceson Lawrence to name a few. But this season, Coleman can also carry the bragging rights of having coached the recently crowned 2014 CIFL Most Valuable Player in DL/FB Thomas McKenzie.

Statistically, during the 2014 regular season under Coleman, the Blue Racers outscored their opponents 318-230, racked up 1683 yards of total net offense and scored 45 total touchdowns. On defense for the regular season, the team had 361 total tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, nine interceptions, 11 pass breakups, seven forced fumbles with six recoveries, three blocked kicks and one safety.

In 2012, Coleman was the Defensive Line Coach for the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena Football League (AFL). During that time, he was a part of helping to coach the defense in a game against the Orlando Predators that was the biggest comeback in AFL history. After coming back from a 48-17 deficit, the Power rallied to beat the Predators 57-54 in overtime at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

LaMonte is also CEO and General Manager of the Marion Blue Racers and has successfully operated the team for four full seasons in Marion, OH, beginning in 2011. In the Blue Racers' existence, he has been able to help DB Bryan Williams, K Trey Kramer, and K Seth Burkholder advance to the Arena Football League with the Pittsburgh Power and helped multiple other players gain opportunities in the Indoor Football League (IFL).
