Marion Suspends Season
The Marion Blue Racers will be suspending their upcoming 2016 season effective immediately. I want to thank all of the players, sponsors, coaches, support staff and most of all the fans that have supported the team for five consecutive seasons. Unfortunately, several delayed sponsorship commitments and limited ticket sales have not produced enough financial support for a ten game schedule and it would be unwise for the team to begin a season without making sure that players, coaches and other contracts would be honored throughout the season.
After speaking to Marion Coliseum manager Candy Tripp this morning, she was very disappointed to hear that the Blue Racers was suspending its season but was highly supportive of the team making an effort to resume play in 2017 with the support from the Marion County. The team hasn't lost a regular season home game for the last two consecutive seasons (10-0). The Blue Racers have appeared in two championship games, won a division title, awarded two Coach of the Year honors and most importantly our players have had a five year stellar record in the Marion community. We would love to continue this streak once our fans including city and county officials work with the team to ensure that professional football is here to stay.
I will be reaching out to our sponsors via email, phone and in person to work on a successful 2017 campaign so the team can announce by June 1, 2016 where it will be playing and what new teams are looking to rival Central Ohio's Only Professional Football Team.
