Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced on Tuesday that the United Hockey League club has signed defenseman Lee Jacobson for the 2006-07 season. Adhering to club policy, terms of the agreement with the defenseman were not disclosed.

Jacobson becomes the fourth player to join the IceHogs for the new campaign and first skater on the roster that didn't play with Rockford during the 2005-06 season. The '06-07 campaign will mark the 6-4 d-man's fourth in professional hockey. Last season, Jacobson split time with the Charlotte Checkers and Augusta Lynx of the ECHL and the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League.

"Lee is a defensive defenseman who is tough and brings a physical presence," said Martinson. "That is something that's been missing the past couple of years here. He is very similar to T.J. Reynolds who was here last year for a couple of games."

The Chicago native has played 21 games at the AHL level in his first three seasons. During the 2004-05 season, Jacobson suited up for 18 games with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and recorded 104 penalty minutes. The defensive minded blue-liner broke into the pro ranks with the Fort Worth Brahmas in 2002 and recorded a career-high 273 PIM's.

Jacobson spent the bulk of last season with Augusta where he notched 2g-3a-5pts and 116 PIM's in 54 contests. Jacobson also spent three games with the Lock Monsters in the "A".

With Jacobson, the IceHogs now have four players, all defenseman, locked up for the club's eighth season in Rockford. Joining Jacobson include Matt Gens and rookies Dan Boeser and Mike Letizia.
