Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, announced Wednesday that the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets activated defenseman Dillon Heatherington from the team's Injured Non-Roster List and assigned the second-year blue-liner to Cleveland. Originally selected by Columbus in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (50th overall), Heatherington fractured his wrist during a Blue Jackets training camp practice in late September.
A 6'4", 215 lb. left-handed native of Calgary, AB, Heatherington, 21, posted 2-16-19 with 50 penalty minutes and a +17 rating in 63 regular-season appearances for the Monsters last year and contributed 0-3-3 with six penalty minutes and an even rating in 15 postseason appearances, helping the Monsters claim the 2016 Calder Cup Championship. Heatherington's only additional professional experience was a three-game stint with the AHL's Springfield Falcons during the late stages of the 2014-15 campaign, during which Heatherington provided 0-1-1 and a +1 rating.
Prior to his professional career, Heatherington collected 13-74-87 with 254 penalty minutes and a +35 rating in 247 combined appearances for the WHL's Swift Current Broncos spanning parts of five seasons from 2010-15. Heatherington also helped Team Canada earn the Gold Medal at the 2013 U18 and 2015 U20 IIHF World Junior Championships.
