
Blue Anchors fall to Rox 9-2

Alexandria, Minn.-The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the St. Cloud Rox on Sunday by a score of 9-2 at Knute Nelson Memorial Ballpark in Alexandria. The loss drops the Anchors to 7-11 in the 2nd half and 17-35 overall
St. Cloud jumped on the board in the top of the first against starter Kevin Hatcher. With one out, Clay Williamson and Adam Martin singled. After the second out was recorded, Chris Paul doubled on a fly ball to right field scoring Williamson and giving the Rox a 1-0 advantage.
The Rox used the longball to extend their lead against reliever Spencer Koopmans in the fifth. Williamson hit a solo homer with one out and a batter later, Luke Weber went deep to centerfield putting St. Cloud up 3-0. Paul singled on a grounder to shortstop and Vincent Jackson hit the third home run of the inning making the score 5-0 in St. Cloud's favor.
A two-out rally by the Rox extended their lead in the sixth against Taylor Simpson. The first two batters of the inning were retired and then a base hit by Colwell got the rally started. Williamson doubled into right-center to score Colwell and make the score 6-0. Then a base hit by Adam Martin plated Williamson pushing the Rox lead to 7-0.
Alexandria was finally able to on the board against Jason Hoppe in the seventh. Ryan Blanchard hit a solo homer to left to start the inning and then Keegan Dale singled one out later. He moved to second on a grounder by Dalton Leuschke and came around to score on a Georgie Salem base hit to cut the deficit to 7-2.
In his second inning of work, Zac Custer allowed a two-out homer to Williamson extending St. Cloud's lead to 8-2.
Scott Sanderson came in to pitch the ninth and allowed a lead-off double to Weber. The with one out, pinch-hitter Alex McRae doubled to left field giving the Rox a 9-2 cushion.
Kevin Hatcher (0-3) took the loss for Alexandria, going three inning and giving up one run.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Ryan Blanchard (OF) - Blanchard had a good game offensively for the Blue Anchors, going three for four with a home run and a stolen base
