COLUMBIA, S.C.- On the first dry night in a while, the Columbia Blowfish held host to the (15-13) Florence Red Wolves, at Capital City Stadium in Columbia Friday July the 12th.
The Blowfish opened the scoring in the bottom half of the fifth inning off of a two RBI double off the bat of Allen Staton (North Greenville), as he picked up his 28th and 29th RBI's of the season. These would be the only runs scored by the Blowfish all night, though proved to be enough as Blowfish pitching held the Red Wolves to one run.
The Red Wolves scored off of an RBI single from first baseman, Zach Bellinger (Saint Rose).
The Starting pitcher for the Blowfish Friday was right-hander David Duncan (Florida A&M), throwing four innings, giving up no runs, off of one hit, no walks, and one strikeout. Cord Cockrell the right hander from Louisiana-Lafayette, came on in relief, throwing just one inning giving up no runs off of one hit, no walks, and one strikeout. Jared Keels was the second relief pitcher of the night for the Fish as he would give up the only Red Wolves run of the night, giving up the one run off of two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Hunter Privette came in to close the last three innings, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks, and one strikeout. Cockrell picked up the win improving him to (4-0) on the season.
Starting pitcher for Florence Friday was right-hander Wales Toney (Clemson), tossing in his debut game, he tossed five innings giving up two runs off of six hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Nathan Foriest (Middle Tennessee State) came on in relief in the sixth giving up no runs, no hits, one walk, and no strikeouts. Closing out the final two innings for the Red Wolves was right-hander Jeffery Stoner (Francis Marion), who threw two innings, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.
The Blowfish are now (5-0) on the season sitting in first place in the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Wednesday night July 17th hosting the Gastonia Grizzlies with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6:00pm.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
