Bloomington Thunder News Release
The Bloomington Thunder conclude a four-game homestand this weekend against the top team in the Southern Professional Hockey League.
Gator bait: The Louisiana IceGators visit U.S. Cellular Coliseum Friday and Saturday at 7:05 each night. The IceGators hold a 6-2-0 record good for 12 points and first place in the SPHL standings, three points ahead of Huntsville and Pensacola. The Thunder are 1-5-0 and tied for ninth with Fayetteville. Louisiana is led in scoring by Chris Wilson with 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points followed by Jason Cohen, Matt Robertson and Jake Trask each with 10 points. Adam Stuart has 24 penalty minutes to lead the IceGators. Louisiana split their weekend games at the Mississippi Surge, losing on Friday 7-4 but rebounding for a 7-5 win on Saturday behind a Matt Robertson hat trick, a five-point night (1 goal, 4 assists) from Chris Wilson and three assists from Jeremy Boyer. The games can be heard inside U.S. Cellular Coliseum on 93.7 FM and online at WJBC.com and viewed pay-per-view through America One. Links to the broadcasts are found on the home page of www.bloomingtonthunder.com.
Thunder thoughts: Kevin Walrod leads the Thunder with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) but did not earn a point in Saturday's shutout loss for the first time this season, ending a five-game point streak. Next in the scoring race for the Thunder are Dan Barczuk with six points (4 goals, 2 assists) and five points each for Ron Cramer (2 goals, 3 assists), Tyler Noseworthy (2 goals, 3 assists) and Darick Ste-Marie (1 goal, 4 assists).
Last time out: The Thunder scored first and tallied twice in the final minute on Friday but could not light the lamp at all on Saturday in 5-4 and 5-0 losses to the Columbus Cottonmouths last weekend. Curtis Megginson, Dan Barczuk, Ryan Cramer and Kyle Watson registered the goals for the Thunder.
Roster update: The Thunder have signed right wing Burke Gallimore to a three-game pro tryout. The right-handed shot is 6-0 and 200 pounds and is a 22-year-old native of Edmonton, Alberta. He played his junior career in the Western Hockey League, concluding in 2011-12 with the Seattle Thunderbirds where he recorded 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) with 48 PIM in 72 games. He registered two assists in five games this season with Wichita (CHL). His first game was Saturday in which recorded two penalty minutes without a point. The Thunder will be without forward Ryan Cramer for Friday's game as he serves a one-game suspension from the SPHL for a major checking from behind penalty in the third period of Saturday night's game.
Helping Home Sweet Home: Thunder fans are asked to help Home Sweet Home Ministries this weekend by bringing canned goods to games on Friday and Saturday. Home Sweet Home serves homeless and underprivileged people in the Bloomington-Normal area and reports that donations to its food pantry are lagging behind previous years while demand increases. Boxes for donations will be at the doors for both games this weekend.
Special deals: Friday is Pepsi Date Night with two lower tickets available for only $20 by bringing a Pepsi product to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office. Saturday is another Kids Eat Free Night courtesy of ServPro when kids 12 and under can eat free hot dogs, corn dogs, popcorn, nachos and fries from the time the gates open at 6 p.m. until the Thunder score their first goal.
Group and multi-game ticket packages are available as are sponsorship opportunities. For more information, call 309-434-2980. Thunder information, including links to the online broadcasts and the latest Thunder TV episode, can be found at www.bloomingtonthunder.com as well as Facebook and Twitter (BLMThunder).
