Quad City Mallards News Release
Bloomington, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to the host Bloomington PrairieThunder 2-1 Saturday night as Bloomington's Craig MacDonald scored the game winning goal and picked up one assist and Quad City's Ryan Fultz seemed for instant to have tied the game late in the third period only for the goal to be controversially disallowed when it was ruled the Bloomington net was dislodged just before the puck cross the goal line.
MacDonald's wraparound snapped a 1-1 tie with just 22 seconds left in the second period. The Thunder protected the lead until, for an instant late in the third period, it seemed the Mallards had tied the game after pulling goaltender Kyle Jones for extra attacked when Fultz jammed puck in on a wraparound of his own, but it was ruled that the net came free an instant before the puck slipped in and PrairieThunder hung on for the win.
The Mallards had erased an earlier 1-0 deficit when Chris Lipsett charged down the slot to bury the puck at 12:46 of second.
Jamie Carroll's drive from the high slot had opened the scoring 5:16 of the first period.
The Mallards return home to take on the Flint Generals tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. Just in time for Christmas, the Mallards will team up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program for a Teddy Bear Toss tomorrow- fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal to the game and toss it onto the ice after the Mallards score their first goal of the contest. Teddy bears will be donated to needy children in the Quad Cities. In addition, $1.50 hot dogs will be available at i wireless Center concession stands during Sunday's game. Sunday is also a Family Skate Night- fans are encouraged to bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice after the game.
