Quad City Mallards News Release

Bloomington, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Saturday night were shut out 6-0 by the host Bloomington PrairieThunder as PrairieThunder goaltender Andrew Martin made 33 saves to keep Quad City off the scoreboard.

The PrairieThunder took control of the contest with three second period goals. Justin Sawyer started the second period onslaught with a wraparound that doubled what had been a 1-0 Bloomington lead at 2:19 of the second period. With that goal the Mallards replaced starting goaltender Jerad Kauffman with Kyle Jones. Jones was beaten for the first time when Bill Bagron tipped in Jon Booras's feed from the doorstep at 13:01 of the second. The gap expanded to 4-0 when, just after the end of a Bloomington power play, Craig MacDonald buried Jamie Carroll's feed from the side to the net.

The PrairieThunder capped off the win with a pair of third period goals. Bloomington was shorthanded when Brett Holmberg finished off a 2-on-1 rush at 1:45 of the third. At the 6:02 mark Robin Gomez made it 6-0 with a drive from the left wing circle.

Early in the evening it seemed the game might go in a different direction as Quad City outshot Bloomington 15-7 in the opening period. However, it was the Thunder who got the only goal of the first when Carroll scored from a bad angle 7:55 into the game.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow afternoon against the PrairieThunder on home ice at 4:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards commemorative cups. Sunday is also a Family Skate Night- fans can bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice after the game.

Tickets for Sunday's game and all remaining regular season Mallards home games are available at the i wireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
