Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 will host Blitz Bowl III tonight at Centennial Garden at 7:30pm. The annual game is believed to be the only high school all-star game played arena-style in the nation.

Blitz Bowl III is made up of two teams: East versus West. The previous two matches have been split, with each team winning one. Mike Snow of North High School coaches team West while South High's Steve Napier heads up the East team. Between the two squads, 26 area high schools are represented from Kern County. Of the schools, Centennial High is the most represented, with five players. North High and Garces each have four players playing in the game. Both teams feature numerous stars from the past season, with Team East alone fielding 21 All-League and seven All-Area selections.

The Bakersfield Blitz and San Diego Riptide renew their rivalry this Saturday in the first of four meetings between the Western Division foes, at 7:00pm at Centennial Garden. After a 65-48 victory in Week 2 in Fresno against Central Valley, the Blitz are tied atop the Western Division with the Hawaii Islanders.

Everyone in attendance will receive a Blitz Magnet Schedule and the crowd will be entertained by the ZOOperstars, courtesy of WB-12, 98.5 The Fox and Whitewater Car Wash & Lube. The ZOOperstars, who make their arena football debut in Bakersfield, are giant animal mascot take-offs on famous sports stars, featuring Peyton Manatee, Harry Canary, Mia Hamster, Rusty Walrus, Mackerel Jordan and Nomar Garciaparrot. Doors open at 6:00pm. All Blitz games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230 with the "Voice of the Blitz" Kevin Bartl. This weekend's game can also be seen live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21.

Tonight also features "The Indoor War Report" with Head Coach Rick Van Horne, a live talk show that airs on the Blitz flagship station, KGEO AM 1230. The "IWR" airs every Thursday from 6:00 – 7:00pm, live from the Holiday Inn Select's Q Street Bistro, next to Centennial Garden. Fans coming out to the show can take advantage of food and drink specials, win prizes and meet Blitz stars up-close. Kevin Bartl hosts "The Indoor War Report," which this week features WR/LB Eric Mahanke in addition to Coach Van Horne.

Season tickets for the Blitz start at just $63, and are on sale now by contacting the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548) or by stopping by the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment office located at Centennial Garden. For up-to-date information on the Blitz, log on to www.bakersfieldblitz.com.
