Chicago Blaze News Release

The Chicago Blaze defeated the defending NWBL champion Atlanta Justice 70-57 on Wednesday evening to earn a berth in tomorrow night's 2002 Pro Cup Championship game.

A 1-point game at half-time, the Blaze opened a 7-point lead midway through the second half when backup guard Elena Lovato sunk back-to-back three-point baskets. Despite the various efforts of Atlanta's strong frontcourt of Tracy Henderson (WNBA Cleveland Rockers) and Tamara Stocks (WNBA Washington Mystics) the Blaze were able to maintain at least the seven-point advantage for the remainder of the game.

The Blaze was led by the strong backcourt play of E.C. Hill (Northern Illinois University / Whitney Young High School) and Felecity Willis (University of Arizona). Hill led the Blaze in scoring with 20 points while also grabbing 5 rebounds. Willis added 14 points and 5 assists. Kina Brown also contributed 11 points in the effort. The Justice were led by Tracy Henderson who finished with 15 points.

The Blaze will face the #3 seed Houston Stealth tomorrow night at 8:00pm in their quest for their first Pro Cup championship.
