Chicago Blaze News Release

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze will travel to Dallas to take on Sheryl Swoopes and the Dallas Fury Thursday evening. The Blaze will have their backs against the wall as they take on a Dallas team filled with serious WNBA talent. The Dallas roster includes Swoopes, guard Anna Deforge (WNBA Phoenix Mercury), and forward Cheryl Ford (WNBA Detroit Shock) and several former WNBA players. The Fury are coached by Hall of Famer Nancy Liberman and former NFL legend Deion Sanders.

The Blaze will be without their top guns in Dallas as forward Tamika Catchings and guard Jamie Redd will not be in action. Coach Littlejohn says that the team is still confident, "this will be a great challenge for us and an opportunity for some other players to step up. Jamie and Tamika have been carrying us. It's someone else's turn now."

The Blaze will return to take on the two-time defending champion Houston Stealth on Sunday, February 8 at 3PM at North Central College's Merner FieldHouse. The Stealth are led by WNBA superstars Tina Thompson and Cynthia Cooper. The Stealth roster includes numerous WNBA players including guard Tamicha "Action" Jackson (WNBA Phoenix Mercury), Kelley Gibson (WNBA Houston Comets) and forward Octavia Blue (WNBA Houston Comets).

The Chicago Blaze is entering its third season in the NWBL. The Blaze will play a 22-game schedule through March 23 and will play its home games at Merner Fieldhouse located at North Central College in Naperville, IL.

The National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the WNBA who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. The season is played from January through April and the teams include the Birmingham Power, CHICAGO BLAZE, Colorado Chill, Dallas Fury, Houston Stealth, and Springfield Spirit.
