Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze announce the re-signing of offensive lineman ROB GATRELL (6-4, 290, Fresno State) to a one-year contract today. In addition to Gatrell, the Blaze have also signed quarterback ROYAL GILL (6-5, 230, New Mexico State) and defensive back CARLTON BROWN (5-11, 190, Jackson State) to a two-year and three-year contract, respectively. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed due to team policy.
"We are excited to bring back a veteran like Gatrell," said Blaze head coach and general manager DANNY WHITE. "He is a high-energy player that did good things for us in his first season with the Blaze. Royal and Carlton will not only add depth to our roster, but some youth, as well."
Gatrell spent the 2007 season with the Blaze and has also played for the Las Vegas Gladiators (2005-06) and the San Jose SaberCats (2004). He was signed as a free agent with the NFL's St. Louis Rams in 2002 and was allocated to the NFL Europe where he played for two seasons. Gatrell participated in training camp with the San Francisco 49ers in 2001.
Gill played at New Mexico State in 2005. During the season, the former Aggie was 195-for-328 passes for 1,930 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Brown finished up his collegiate career in 2006 with the Jackson State Tigers. In his final season, he tallied 27.0 total tackles, five interceptions and seven pass breakups.
