February 22, 2003 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Chicago Blaze News Release
A second half comeback against the Grand Rapids Blizzard was still not enough for the Chicago Blaze, who fall to 1-1 at home and 1-5 on the season.
After struggling through most of the first half, the Blaze quickly took a second half lead forcing two turnovers and scoring 6 unanswered points. But the Blizzard, led by Kelly Komara who scored 27 points (9-9 FT) and Maxanne Reese who finished with 25, including six 3-pointers, came out on top with a 93-91 victory.
University of Nebraska's Anna Deforge led the Blaze with 22 points, including three 3-pointers. DePaul University's Mfon Udoka finished with 18 points, and Dominique Canty (WNBA Detroit Shock) finished with 14.
The Blaze will look to heat up again tomorrow when they face the Springfield Spirit at home, tip-off set for 3:00pm. Springfield will be lead by Swin Cash (WNBA Detroit Shock) and Rebecca Lobo (WNBA Connecticut Sun)
The NWBL showcases professional women basketball players across the nation; including players from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. The 2003 season will run from February through April.
