Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - For a couple innings on Friday night at the Hangar, it appeared the Lancaster JetHawks would flip the script on the Bakersfield Blaze. A week after the JetHawks were swept by the Blaze, Lancaster sprinted out to a five run lead through two innings. Beginning in the third, however, the Blaze gave the JetHawks a serious case of déjà vu. They scored 13 consecutive runs and rolled to a series opening 14-5 win.
Lancaster rode a familiar formula to the early lead. For the third straight night, J.B. Shuck led off the game with a base hit when he doubled to left. After Ebert Rosario reached on an error, Jon Gaston brought Shuck home with a sacrifice fly to left. Koby Clemens was next, and he continued his scorching streak with a home run to left that put the JetHawks in front 3-0. Koby now has 104 RBI to lead the California League.
They got two more in the second when Ebert Rosario doubled down the left field line. It was Rosario's 17th RBI in just his 22nd game with the club. But things began to get ugly in the third. Davis Stoneburner doubled to lead off the frame before Jacob Kaase singled. Stoneburner scored on a Matt Lawson ground out and then David Paisano walked. Elie Sarmiento then singled in a run before Jonathan Greene struck out. JetHawks starter Chris Hicks then got Mauro Gomez to ground to third; Ebert Rosario threw wildly to first and the inning continued. The Blaze would make the most of their extra out, scoring four more runs on a double and a single.
The Blaze got three more in the fourth; two came on a two-run homer from Jonathan Greene that rocketed over the scoreboard in left and the third on an RBI double from Joey Butler.
They tacked on four more runs in the sixth via a pair of two-run home runs. Greene struck again for the first, and Mike Bianucci drilled the second off Jordan Powell, who came in to relieve Hicks.
The JetHawks continue their three-game home set with the Blaze tomorrow night; they welcome the Storm to the Hangar at 7:00 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com beginning at 6:45.
During Saturday's game, the JetHawks will offer their next in the popular and highly collectible "Legends of Aerospace" Bobblehead Dolls. This year the JetHawks team with NASA Dryden Flight Center to honor the development and flights of the SR-71 Blackbird. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free replica of the SR-71 with a bobblehead pilot emerging from the cockpit. The flight crews from the SR-71's final flight will be on hand to take part in a pre-game flyover and honoring ceremony. They will also meet fans and sign autographs.
