Blaze Bring Back Booras
June 6, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, has signed familiar face Jon Booras as the first member of their 2012-13 squad.
Booras returns for his second season with the Blaze and seventh season playing professional hockey in Bloomington. The 5'11", 180-pound forward played college hockey at Lake Superior State University before starting his professional career in 2005 with the UHL Muskegon Fury. In addition to playing in Bloomington, Jon has also made brief appearances with the AHL Iowa Stars and Peoria Rivermen.
Booras had an impressive year despite a hamstring injury that left him benched for five weeks. Shortly after his return, Booras competed in his 400th professional contest during which he led the Blaze to a 6-2 victory over the Evansville IceMen courtesy of a hat trick completed in the middle frame. The next day Jon earned Oakley CHL Player of the Week recognition. These accomplishments along with his great work ethic led the Billings, Montana native to a team-high 27 goals and 53 overall points in just 52 games. Fans voted Booras the Blaze Most Valuable Player, an award that was presented during the final home game of the Blaze 2011-12 season on March 17th .
Coach Brian Gratz is excited to have Booras back on the Blaze roster. "Jon has been a mainstay in Bloomington for the last 6 years," Gratz said, "and over that time he has been a terrific performer and has really become part of this community. Bringing Jon back is a great start to moving our organization in the right direction." Booras backs the Blaze philosophy both on and off the ice proven by the fact that he started in the Blaze front office on Monday, working as a POSE (Player Off-Season Employee).
The Blaze schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season will be available later this month. Season tickets and sponsorship opportunities are currently available.
