Blaze Beginning To Catch Fire

The Chicago Blaze (4-5) picked up their third consecutive victory and their first road victory of the season with a 83-78 victory over the Tennessee Fury (3-4). The Fury, who were down 13 with 14 minutes remaining, went on a 18-4 run to go up one with 7 minutes remaining. The Blaze regrouped to build a six point lead and never looked back. Dominique Canty (WNBA Detroit Shock) led all scorers with 24 points on eleven for fifteen shooting. She also grabbed 10 rebounds. Mfon Udoka (DePaul University), finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds and Latonya Johnson (WNBA San Antonio Silverstars) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Johnson scored 11 of her 15 in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The Fury was led by superstars Becky Hammon (WNBA New York Liberty) and Marie Ferdinand (WNBA San Antonio Silverstars). Hammon finished with 24 points while Ferdinand finished with 21.

The Blaze signed center Camille Cooper (WNBA New York Liberty) on Friday. Cooper recently returned from playing abroad in France.

The NWBL showcases professional women basketball players across the nation; including players from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. The 2003 season will run from February through April.
