Blanchette Traded To Scorpions
September 23, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions roster continues to be filled as Randy Murphy added two more names to the list today. Adam Blanchette was acquired from the Tulsa Oilers and Shawn Doucet was signed.
Blanchette split time last season with Tulsa and Rio Grande Valley in his second professional season. In 97 games over the past two seasons, the defenseman has scored 15 points (1G, 14A) and collected 159 penalty minutes. When looking at the numbers Blanchette may not be flashy, but is well known for his physical play in his own zone.
"I was impressed with his toughness when we played against him in Rio Grande Valley," said Murphy. "Trading for Adam will give us a gritty player in the defensive end."
Doucet comes to the Scorpions after spending two seasons with Brock University in Ontario, Canada. In 2005-06 he led the Badgers in scoring with 25 Points (8G, 17A) in 23 games. His finished his collegiate career with 35 points (13G, 22A) in 44 games.
"We feel Shawn has a tremendous upside to his game," said Murphy. "He has shown some offensive flair at the collegiate level and we are giving him a chance to show his skill at the professional level.
