Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that their trusty mascot Blade has a busy weekend scheduled out in the local community.

Kicking off his big plans, Blade will be at River Fest 2006 on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm on the banks of the Chemung River. Come see Blade and all the excitement of the Chemung River Paddle at the Grove Street Boat Launch in Elmira, thanks the Near Westside Neighborhood Association and all of their contributors. For more information about River Fest, log on to www.chemungrivertrial.com/events-river-fest.htm

After Blade gets done playing in the water, he has to get himself cleaned up for his big television debut. The Jackals mascot is taking part in this year's annual Children's Miracle Network Telethon on WENY News Channel 36 (ABC). The annual telethon features stories of children aided in hospitals affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network and a performance by the Backstreet Boys. Fans check out the Telethon to see if you can see Blade on camera, answering phones and even "taking pledges" for this wonderful event.

The CMN telethon's schedule is Saturday, June 3, from 7 pm to 10:30 pm and Sunday from 6 pm to 8 pm and Blade will be there for every minute of the action.

Blade is also going to be a part of the CMN's Broadcast Celebration on Sunday, June 4th from 2 pm to 6 pm at the WENY News Channel 36 studios located at 474 Old Ithaca Road in Horseheads, NY. This great event will have fun for the Whole Family: Chef William - Food; Bobby K Entertainment - Sponge Bob Moon Bounce & Old Time Photos; Horseheads Youth Bureau - Balloons, Tattoos, & Face Painting; CD Express - DJ; Juliana Johnson - 3pm performance; Horseheads Fire Rescue - Awareness Set Up; Erway Ambulance. The party is open to the public and all proceeds go to the CMN.

"This is only the beginning of a very busy summer for Blade and the Jackals," said General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "I encourage all the Jackals fans out there to go have fun on the Chemung River and to support the Children's Miracle Network. They are both great causes and we're happy to be a part of them."

The Elmira Jackals and Blade are willing to do appearances throughout the Twin Tiers during the summer months as part of their efforts to stay active in the community even during the hockey off-season. For more information, please contact Edward Meek in the Jackals office, 607-734-7824 ext. 3212.
