Blacksnakes Garner Second Road Series Sweep

ROBSTOWN, TX-In the series finale, St. Joe (11-11, 37-33) rode Jesen Merle and a big fouth inning to a 9-0 shutout over Coastal Bend (13-10, 36-34). The Blacksnakes scored six times in the fourth to put the game away, and Jesen Merle went seven shutout innings for his fourth win.

It was St. Joe's second series sweep on the road this season.

St. Joe manufactured a run in the first, then blew the game open in the fourth with a six-run frame. With two outs, eight straight hitters reached for the big inning. Scooter Jordan and Ben Thomas each had two-run doubles to open up a 7-0 lead.

The Blacksnakes added to the lead with two more in the sixth on three extra base hits. Jimmy Mojica and Scooter Jordan hit back-to-back triples, and later in the inning Cody Nowlin hit a double and the rout was on, 9-0.

Jesen Merle (4-3) was outstanding, going seven outstanding innings. In his longest professional outing, Merle recorded 17 of his 21 outs on ground balls, including three double plays.

Scooter Jordan and Cody Nowlin each came up a home run short of the cycle, with Jordan scoring three runs and knocking in three runs. Ben Thomas and Cory Harris each had two runs batted in.

The road trip continues as the ‘Snakes begin a three-game series in Shreveport Sunday night at 6:05pm. J.C. Huguet (3-2) makes his second start and goes against Ryan Snyder (4-5) for the Sports. The webcast starts at 5:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
