Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks began the third period Saturday trailing the Chicago Steel by two goals but ended up on top by a pair in a 4-2 final.

Eric Alexander scored the games' first goal for Chicago on a deflection late in the first period. Simon Olsson's shorthanded penalty shot goal in the second made it 2-0.

The Black Hawk power play boosted Waterloo back into the game in the final 20 minutes. Mike Marcou scored with one Chicago penalty ending and a delayed call coming against the Steel at 4:09. On the advantage again at 9:58, Blake Kessel's shot went over Rob Madore's shoulder and in to tie the game.

The Hawks went ahead 3:26 later when Keegan Meuer raced up left wing. His shot was stopped, but Meuer and Paul Weisgarber worked the puck loose behind the net to Brett Beebe in the right circle who buried the go-ahead goal.

Kessel scored his second of the night into an empty net to seal the win.

Saturday's victory in Chicago came after a 4-1 loss to Cedar Rapids Friday at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Brett Olson had the lone Black Hawks goal on the power play in the opening minute of the third period. It was sandwiched between a pair of Rough Rider goals on each side.

The Hawks open up a college weekend at Young Arena Friday against the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets at 7:05. All college students with valid id at that game or Saturday's contest against the Indiana Ice will be admitted for $5.
