Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks announced broad changes Tuesday to build on the success of seven consecutive seasons with increasing attendance. The franchise will position itself for further growth by promoting staff who have helped the business expand in recent years.
Black Hawks Owner and C.E.O. William "Butch" Johnson explained the reorganization, saying, "Under Doug Miller's leadership, the Black Hawks have continually grown. The staff in Waterloo is second to none, and the elevation and clarification of what each member does will help us to continually advance the Black Hawks in all areas. We are excited about the Cedar Valley and our relationship with the fans and our business partners."
General Manager of Business Operations Doug Miller has been promoted to President of Black Hawks Hockey Inc., a role which will involve broader management of franchise assets. The 2009-2010 season will be Miller's ninth with the organization, which has seen continuous growth during his tenure. An alumnus of Kansas State University, Miller was previously the General Manager of the Topeka ScareCrows (Central Hockey League) and Billings Bulls (America West Hockey League).
"The business of hockey is evolving at a pace never seen before," said Miller. "When you have excellent people in your organization like Shawna, Clint, Katie, and Tim, it is only natural to let them grow with the business. The future is very exciting here in Waterloo and this puts all the pieces in place to match the challenges we will face as we move forward."
Shawna Rowe, previously Assistant General Manager of Business Operations, is taking an expanded role as Vice President of Business Operations. In addition to current responsibilities for accounting and supervision of all ticketing, Rowe will now manage Black Hawk licensing and merchandising. A 2003 graduate from the University of Northern Iowa, Rowe began her career with the team as Ticket Director in the summer of 2003.
Corporate Sales Director Clint Rowe is also rising to the same rank and will now be Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Preparing for his sixth season with the Black Hawks, Rowe will now oversee all corporate partnership efforts, with responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the organization's sales staff. In addition, he will continue to direct game-night operations at Young Arena. Previously an Account Manager at Cumulus Media-Waterloo, Rowe earned his degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 2001.
Katie Kenne, Group Sales Director, will now hold the title of Senior Account Executive and Graphic Design Specialist. Kenne's efforts will include arranging corporate partnerships, group ticketing, managing the Black Hawks box office, and designing both publications and arena displays for the team. A Public Relations major, Kenne interned with the franchise as a student, graduated from Northern Iowa in 2005, and began working for the team in a full-time capacity during 2007.
Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Tim Harwood will also take the moniker of Senior Account Executive, with additional responsibilities for specialized Broadcasting, Media, and Community Relations projects. Harwood attended Valparaiso University, graduating in 2002. He has been bringing Black Hawks games to fans by radio since 2005.
