Waterloo, Iowa-Team captain Aaron Pearce was recognized for his efforts on and off the ice as the Waterloo Black Hawks looked back on the 2011-2012 season and ahead to the Clark Cup playoffs on Sunday evening during the organization's annual awards banquet at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center.

Pearce was presented with the Hawks' Community Service Award for spending the greatest amount of time involved in the organization's outreach efforts, the Black Hawks Booster Club Award for in-game play coupled with positive fan interaction, and the Roth Jewelers Front Office Award for consistent, reliable assistance organizing the team for special events. His teammates also named him the Hawks' "Hardest Worker."

Several other peer awards were announced after voting by Waterloo players. Forward Mike Huntebrinker was selected as the team's Most Improved Player. The Unsung Hero Award was given to forward Mark Naclerio, who was second on the squad with 28 assists. Forward Taylor Cammarata was presented with both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors. The 16-year-old led the Hawks with 27 goals and 69 points. Cammarata finished sixth overall in league scoring.

Black Hawks fans voted defenseman Ian McCoshen the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year. It was the fourth consecutive season a defenseman has been recognized with the honor. Funds raised from voting for the Fan's Choice Player of the Year are contributed to local Cedar Valley charity organizations.

Dr. Deb Riehle was presented with the team's Karen Wente Distinguished Service Award. Riehle is the Black Hawks' academic advisor. On staff at Waterloo West High School, she oversees class scheduling for players and assists with the college admittance process.

The awards banquet was one night after the Black Hawks concluded the USHL regular season with a 6-4 victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
