Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Joe Howe made 24 saves on 24 Tri City Storm shots, helping the Waterloo Black Hawks to their first shutout win of the season, 5-0 at Young Arena Friday.
The Hawks' offense clicked early. Derek Arnold redirected a Dan Sova shot into the net 3:06 into the game. Just 1:27 later, Nick Larson cashed in on a chance from the rightwing circle during a power play.
Scoring started again early in the second period; Jordan Samuels-Thomas needed just 20 seconds to put the Hawks up 3-0. Following an extended period of Storm power play time later in the second, Eddie Olczyk raced into the Tri City zone, cut behind the net, and made a backhand feed across the crease to Scott Pavelski for a 4-0 lead at 13:24.
Pavelski recorded his second consecutive two-goal game, sneaking behind the defense for a power play goal at 15:43 of the third period.
