Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The 2011-2012 Waterloo Black Hawks will step onto the Young Arena ice for the first time next week during the organization's 2011 Training Camp.
The four-day team-building and evaluation period will help the Hawks' coaching staff as they continue to determine the roster for the new season. A variety of on- and off-ice activities await the 30 players who will attend. Young Arena will be open during practice and scrimmage sessions, and interested fans may attend at no charge.
A wealth of USHL experience is expected to help the Black Hawks this season. Ten fulltime players return from the 2010-2011 squad, including leading scorer Tyler Zepeda, goaltender Jay Williams, and defenseman Ian McCoshen. Waterloo's preseason roster also includes three skaters who spent time with other league clubs last winter, along with Eamon McAdam, Ryan Papa, and A.J. Michaelson who each appeared briefly in 2010-2011 off of the Hawks' protected affiliate list. First-year players include Taylor Cammarata, the top pick during the 2011 USHL Futures Draft, and two NHL draft picks, Tony Cameranesi and Ed Wittchow. Nine Black Hawks currently have NCAA Division I college commitments.
A schedule of on-ice sessions is listed below. All times and activities are subject to change. Party Town Outfitters, the official souvenir store of the Black Hawks, will be open during select portions of Training Camp. Specific hours will be posted at the arena next week.
