WCL Cowlitz Black Bears

Black Bears Walk-Off For 3rd Straight

July 11, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

GAME STORY: Longview-Kelso: July 11, 2011: The Cowlitz Black Bears made the front office sweat on Guaranteed Win Night. The team traded leads with the Bend Elks. Neither team could break a three-all deadlock after the 5th inning. Ryan Yuengel (University of Missouri) came on in relief of starter Grahamm Wiest (Cal St. Fullerton) and pitched two clean innings headed to the 9th.

There the Elks made their stand when the first two runners reached base on a single and a walk. A sacrifice moved them to second and third with one out. Yuengel buckled down to nail the lead runner on a fielder's choice and a fly out ended the Bend threat. Taking the momentum of escaping from that jam, Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) hit a sharp one-hopper that careened away from the first baseman and allowed Garlick to score. Garlick wielded the offensive firepower with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his second of the summer. Brent Graham (LCC) went two-for-four and Billy Flamion (University of Oregon) reached base on a hit and a walk.

The Black Bears begin a six-game road trip tomorrow. They return to Story Field July 19th for Azteca $2 Tuesday where general admissions tickets, hot dogs, soda, and beer are all two dollars. It's also Kelso Schools Spirit Night. After that it's Burgerville Family Night on Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday with Ladies' Night.
