Black Bears Take Second Game, Split Doubleheader Against Bellingham

Longview: July 1, 2012: Backed by a dominant start by Mikey Murray (Hawaii Pacific) and clutch hitting from Austin Diemer (Cal State Fullerton) and Brian Frattali (Portland), the Black Bears beat the Bellingham Bells 2-0 in the second game of the teams' doubleheader Sunday night.
Murray held Bellingham scoreless in five and a third innings and allowed only three hits; Murray struck out five and didn't allow any walks or hit batters. Diemer had an RBI double in the third and was brought home on a Frattali single, one of three hits in the game for him. Kody Watts (Portland) pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save.
Bellingham got three late-inning runs to win 3-0 in game one. Despite the loss, Felipe Perez (UCLA) pitched a complete game, striking out three and allowing zero walks.
The Black Bears next home game is Tuesday, July 3 against the Kitsap Blue Jackets. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday, featuring $2 GA tickets, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda, and $2 beer. Also, there will be a Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Links Four Corners General Store.
