Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: Four games of struggle ended in a five-run explosion that saw the Black Bears turn a 3-1 deficit into a 6-3 victory. Porter Clayton (University of Oregon) struggled early, facing five full counts to Gems hitters through the first three innings. He surrendered a two-run home run in the third, but buckled down after that to pitch into the sixth inning.
At the plate Cowlitz's frustrations continued until the 6th inning when two errors allowed the team to score their first run of the series. The bats truly awoke in the 8th, as the team scored five runs highlighted by Kirk Cunningham's (LSU) two-run single. Brent Graham (LCC) reached base twice on a hit and a walk and Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) went two-for-four with an RBI to lead the offense. Andrew Lines (UC Irvine) came in and retired the side in order in the 9th for his second save of the season.
Cowlitz will look to take the series in tomorrow's rubber match. It's a 5:05 pm start time for Elder Options Senior Sunday. Members of the Cold Stone Creamery Kids Club will get in for free and all kids can run the bases after the game.
