Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: The Cowlitz Black Bears took their 6th series of the season on an offensive explosion. Every Black Bears hitter reached base at least once, and most did on several trips to the plate. Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) opened scoring with an RBI double in the second inning. The team scored early and often, marking tallies in five separate innings. The big one came in the 7th, when 5 consecutive batters reached base and scored before the first out was recorded. Cody Webster (Cal St. Fullerton) and Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) both went three-for-four with an RBI.
Lost in the barrage was another outstanding effort from Cowlitz starter Jeff Gold (University of Oregon). Gold went seven scoreless innings, pushing his scoreless inning streak to 23. He struck out nine, surrendered three hits and walked two. He got the win, giving him four on the season and placing him in a 6-way tie for first in the West Coast League.
The team closes out the home stand tomorrow with a make-up game against the Bend Elks. Its guaranteed win night, so if the Black Bears fail to win every fan in attendance will receive a free General Admission ticket to a future Black Bears game. Also be sure to take advantage of Kids Eat Free night, where every youngster 14 and under gets a voucher for a free hot dog, soda, and chips.
