Black Bears Lose to Bend 6-3

Longview: The Black Bears put together an amazing comeback with two outs in the ninth inning, only to fall 6-3 after the Bend Elks retook the lead with a furious three-run rally in the tenth.
The Black Bears never led in the ballgame and finally got their first run in the sixth when Derrick Salberg (Lower Columbia) scored on a double steal. Bend added another run in the top of the ninth and things were leaking bleak for the Black Bears.
However, Konnor Armijo (Santa Ana) led off the ninth with a single and with two outs, he scored on a double by Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana). Cody Childs (Mt. Hood) sent the Story Field crown into delirium when he followed a double of his own that scored Kuck and tied the game.
Bend answered with three runs of their own, however, and the Black Bears couldn't muster a rally in the bottom of the tenth.
Leko Galusha (Lower Columbia) gave the Black Bears another outstanding outing on the mound, allowing just one earned run in eight innings. Galusha struck out seven and only allowed four hits and two walks.
The Black Bears final home game of the regular season is Thursday, August 9 at 6:35 PM. It will be Estetica Day Spa Thirsty Thursday & Fan Appreciation Night. There will be $2 beer, discounted prices on alcohol, and prizes galore.
